Hello Spartan Families!

Save the date! On December 8, St. Andrew’s will be hosting a Family Math Event — All parents are invited to attend, 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm.  Additional details will follow.

October is well underway and Spartans are fully engaged in learning in the classroom and through extra-curriculars.

So far this fall St. Andrew’s Spartans have celebrated learning with Boys and Girls Football, girls Field Hockey, and Running Club.  Way to go Spartan Runners on October 20, braving the cool and rainy day to participate in the Fun Run at Lester B. Pearson!

Spartan Chess Club, and Volleyball has begun this week, and students have been to our regional WE Day as Spartan Ambassador.  The St. Andrew’s Gay Straight Alliance (GSA) has begun meeting weekly as well.

St. Andrew’s morning announcements are posted on the St. Andrew’s website daily — students, parents, and staff can refer to these announcements for clarification.  If you have questions, please contact the school.

St. Andrew’s School Council will be meeting Wednesday October 26 at 6pm, in the school Library.  Please refer to the School Council tab for a list of all of our council dates.

October 31 is approaching.  Spartans are able to wear costumes, however, no masks, weapons (real or duplicate), or “gore” please!  Spartans will be invited to participate in a school dance during the last block of October 31, and are encouraged to donate to the Food Bank as an “entry fee” for the dance (one canned item).  There will be an alternate spot for students not interested in attending the dance.

Our Remembrance Day Assembly will be held on November 11.  We open the doors to parents who would like to attend this meaningful assembly honouring our fallen heros.

November 14 Progress Reports will be arriving home with students.  Parents will have an opportunity to meet with teachers during the afternoon of November 18.  Additional information will be posted on how to book your interview.  Parents are always welcome to call the school to speak to teachers or book a time outside of the formal interview time.

Grade 8 students will begin High School Planning in the coming month, including high school visits, and guest speakers here at St. Andrew.

Beginning this month, Constable Mike Douglas will be visiting the school to meet with classes on various topics.

I am happy to report that Roots of Empathy will begin with one of our Grade 6 classes.  Roots of empathy is a unique program designed to help the development of empathy in children and adults, resulting in more respectful and caring relationships, and reduced levels of bullying and aggression.[Roots of Empathy Program Guide, 2007]

All the best for a wonderful fall.
