St. Andrew’s Cell Phone Policy
Dear St. Andrew’s families,
As we begin our school year, we wanted to provide an outline of our school cell phone policy. As you know, research continually demonstrates the disruptive impact cell phones have on student learning. Last year, we worked very hard to try and have students “unplug” from their social media during the school day. This was met with a good level of success.
In continuing with our policy, this is a reminder that students are not permitted to have their cell phones on their person at any time during the school day. The expectation is that cell phones are locked in lockers or given to the office to be kept for the day. We are going to continue working hard at developing a learning environment where social media is not a distraction to student learning. We are sure every family can appreciate the school trying to develop a culture that has students focusing on their learning, and not focusing on what is posted in social media. Your support is extremely important in helping us attain this goal.
We recognize there may be a time when students are required to use their phone during the day. Those times will only occur at the office and with a staff member’s permission. Ideally, we want to continue with students using the office phone to call their family. As well, we ask families to call the school if you need to speak to your child, or if you require a message to be passed along. Families, you can support us by not texting your child during the school day and expecting them to respond. Again, if there is important information your child needs to know, call the school and we will ensure your message is delivered.
Sincerely,
STA Staff
